Virginia has an apple
for every reason and every season. Eleven major apple varieties are grown
in Virginia, and each variety has its own unique characteristics.
Virginia's Red and
Golden Delicious varieties are the all-time favorites. In addition, our
Red Delicious apples generally are crisper, sweeter, and juicier than
apples from most other apple producing areas. Virginia's York, Winesap,
Rome, Stayman, Gala, Ginger Gold, and Granny Smith apples have a unique
Virginia mountain-grown flavor Ñ delicious as a snack or for apple pies
and cakes, fried apples, syrup, and sauce.
Because of their proximity
to major markets, Virginia apples are more economical to transport. Wide
variety and nearly year-round availability make Virginia one of the top
apple-producing states in the nation. |
